Welcome to Miss Woodruff’s 2nd
grade classroom! Our classroom
consists of 24 2nd grade boys.
We are one of the 5 gender specific classes in our school, and the
only all boy classroom in the 2nd grade. We love to read, write, play games, and
move! It is very common to see us
taking a brain break to help keep our brains engaged during the day.
One of the things you will
notice right away when you walk in our classroom is that we use stability
seating. We have learned through research
that using stability seating is another way to keep us moving and keep
our brains engaged. Some of the
stability seating we use is: stability balls, stability stools, and
stability disks. We also have a
couple of gaming chairs that sit low to the ground and rock. We also have standing desks, so we do
not have to sit all day long when we do our work. Each day when we come in to the
classroom we grab our nametags from the pocket chart and choose where we
will be sitting for the day. We
can choose to sit in the same spot as yesterday (if it’s still
available), or we can choose somewhere new!
Another thing you will notice
in our classroom is that we do not have a traditional seating
arrangement. We use tables instead
of desks to help us form a community between each other. The tables are also all over the
room. Some are to the sides of the
room, some are at the front wall, and a few are in the middle of the
room. We are not required to be at
our tables much during the day. We
can move about to help us do our best work in the classroom.
